Human-like Fossils in China Caves Puzzle Scientists

This week I read an article about a possible new species of early humans. Their remains were found in China in a place called the Red Deer Cave. These remains were not just found this year or last but found in 1979 and 1989. Scientists didn’t study them right away. These were very lucky finds since not many fossils from our ancestors have been found in Asia before. The scientists found teeth, sculls and a partial skeleton from four early humans. These fossil remains are now called the “red deer people”. I’m guessing that they were named after the cave they were found in. Researchers believe they lived about 11,500 to 14,500 years ago. This find is quite important because it reveals that there is still much to discover about evolution. What I found interesting about this article is that the fossil finds weren’t studied until ten to twenty years after they were found. I thought that wasn’t a good choice since now that they know how valuable it was they could have been looking more for this type of possible new species. In conclusion, I found this article interesting because it combines science and humanities two of my favorite subjects.
